1. Do I need
a doctor's prescription/referral to purchase Aircast products directly
from Aircast?
Most of the products manufactured by Aircast are used when an injury
is involved. Aircast requires a doctor's referral so we can be sure
you are under medical supervision and receive the appropriate treatment.
2. Which products do not require a doctor's referral for
purchase directly from Aircast?
The Pneumatic Armband, Cryo/Cuff (all models) (all AutoChill systems
require a referral), Sport-Stirrup Ankle Brace, AirSport Ankle Brace,
and Infrapatellar Band.
3. What is the warranty on Aircast products?
Aircast warranties all of its products. For specific product warranty
information contact Aircast Customer Service. In the USA, contact Customer
Service at (800) 526-8785 or (908) 273-6349. Customer Service is available
Monday through Thursday 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM EST and Friday 8:30 AM to
6:00 PM EST.Outside of the USA, contact your local distributor (refer
to the International Distributor List) or Aircast International Customer
Service at (908) 273-6349.
4. How do I clean and maintain my Aircast product?
Because of the wide range of Aircast products, cleaning and maintenance
requirements vary from product to product. For specific cleaning and
maintenance information, refer to the individual product instruction
sheet.
5. Is there any latex in Aircast products?
All Aircast products are latex-free.
6. Does the Knee Cryo/Cuff (Self-Contained) come w/the Hand Bulb?
Yes, it does.
7. If a person is 6ft tall and weighs 300lbs, will the (02AL) Air-Stirrup Ankle Brace (Large) fit?
The Air-Stirrup Ankle Brace is 16" in circumference around the ankle. If the ankle is larger than 16" in circumference, then it will not fit.
8. The A60 and AirSport ankle brace provide prophylactic protection and support, what does prophylactic stand for?
It means a preventive measure. The word comes from the Greek for "an advance guard," an apt term for a measure taken to fend off a disease or another unwanted consequence.
9. The Air-stirrup & plus ankle brace is used to treat the ankle post O.R.I.F, stable malleolar fractures and distal tib/fib stress fractures, hemiparesis and hemiplegia. What does ORIF, malleolar, distal tib/fib fractures, hemiparesis and hemiplegia stand for?
ORIF is an abbreviation which stands for Open Reduction Internal Fixation, which is a method of surgically repairing a fractured bone, generally this involves either the use of plates and screws to stabilize the bone. Malleolar is a type of ankle fracture, the malleolar artery arises 5 cm above the ankle joint. Distal stands for the more (or most) distant of two (or more) things, for example: the distal end of the thigh bone is the end down by the knee; the end more distant from the torso. Tib stands for tibia which is the larger of the two bones in the leg below the knee and fib stands for fibula or calf bone and is located on the lateral side of the tibia, with which it is connected above and below. Hemiparesis is a term used to describe weakness on one side of the body. Hemiplegia is a condition where there is paralysis in one vertical half of a patient's body, hemiplegia is similar to hemiparesis, but hemiparesis is considered less severe.
10. When using the hand bulb pressure gauge how much air should you pump into the air cells?
Between 25 to 35mm (millimeter of mercury), shouldn't go past 35mm.
11. What material are Cryo/Cuffs made out of?
The material is made out of woven nylon, polyurethane film, and extruded polyethylene sheet material.
12. The SP Walker is used to treat metatarsal fracture, Forefoot, midfoot, or hindfoot injury, Acute or post-operative use, Bunionectomy, and Soft tissue injury; define metatarsal fracture and Bunionectomy?
A bunionectomy is a surgical procedure to excise, or remove, a bunion; a bunion is an enlargement of the joint at the base of the big toe and is comprised of bone and soft tissue. Metatarsals are the long bones in the forefoot.
13. What is the purpose of the little holes in the Cryo/Cuff material?
The holes allow air flow to escape so the cuff won't expand.
14. What is the difference between the A60 and Airsport Ankle brace?
The Air Sport has a pocket full of air which creates more support and the A60 does not.
15. Define pneumatic?
Pneumatic means filled with or containing compressed air.
16. What is the difference between semi pneumatic and pneumatic?
Semi pneumatic means that there are only two air cells, pneumatic means that there are four.
17. What is the difference between the Air-stirrup & Air-stirrup plus ankle brace?
They are exactly the same the only difference is that the plus comes with an ankle wrap and specific instructions for treatment and rehabilitation.
18. What is the size difference between the Pneumatic armband one size and the one size extra short strap?
The one size is 10 to 17 inches and the extra short strap is 3 1/2 inches shorter than the one size.
19. Why is the A60 Ankle Brace called the "A60"?
The smaller plastic upright stabilizers are at a 60 degree angle and this is why it is called the "A60".
